Smudging is the practice of spiritual cleansing with smoke, especially from sacred herbs.

A person, a place, a building, or an object may receive the smoke to purify and remove bad energy, to bring a feeling of peace and clarity.

Smudging is done to remove bad energy and to bring a feeling of peace and clarity, while removing negative influences by setting a positive intention.

Some people also use smudging as a way of preparing a sacred space and to invite higher vibrational energies into a place of healing and meditation.

Before you begin, say a prayer or invite your spirit guides and angels in. Ask for your Divine helpers to aid and purifying the energy of your space. It is always recommended to open all the windows in the house before you begin. This gives negative energy a place to exit.

Light your sage into a shell or a dish. We recommend carrying a candle lighter with you throughout the house and/or space as it burns out. Once the smudge is lit you'll be able to cleanse yourself.

Suggested Use:

Call in the spirits of Sage to cleanse and protect you, saying: “Sacred sage, drive away all negativity from my heart, take away everything unworthy and impure.”

Let your intuition guide you. As you walk around and cleanse the home/space, corners, imagine pulling stale and negative energies from the areas as you speak your intentions. Use a feather, hand and/or blow gently to waft the divine smoke.

Cleanse yourself by directing the smoke towards your body starting at your feet and up to your head and then back again.

Once you finish walking around your home and/or clearing your self, keep the smudge in its fireproof dish and allow it to naturally snuff out.

Obviously, don't leave it unattended. After you finish smudging you can bury the sage or ashes to signify the finality of the negative energies that lived in your space.

Many years ago, when I was living in San Diego California, Spirit spoke to me and said it was best to allow the white sage to dry on its own.

Allowing it to take its natural form. I also enjoy having the loose sage to use in my personal rituals for my candle work and soaking in it during bath time.
